Have fun learning the secrets for cooking, wine tasting/drinking and food presentation with our Chef de Cuisine, John Crompton, who will help you increase your confidence when cooking with different combinations of food.
Cooking in France is located 1000 metres above sea level in the stunning French Alps and host cookery courses designed around you.
Whilst there will obviously be some demonstrations most of the cooking
will be hands on. Local produce will be used whenever possible, with advice
on alternatives you can buy in your own country. We
will cook using ingredients and recipes that will change with the seasons
and produce available.
The atmosphere, like the region, is friendly and easy-going. We will encourage you to sample local specialities and to taste different wines with the various dishes we prepare. Be warned there will be wine tasting as we cook!
With a maximum of 8 people per course, you will benefit from the personal tuition of our Chef de Cuisine John Crompton.
Chef John's style of cooking has been called 'Artisan French', or with his
eclectic sprinkle of flavours from other countries, 'Rustic European'.
With many years of experience in cooking worldwide Chef John has cooked for the likes of Giscard D'Estaing, Sir Rocco Forte, Baron Rothschild, together with peers of the realm and sheiks of the desert. He has held both Egon Ronay and Les Routiers recommendations and has cooked to AA Rosette standard.
One of the aims of the course is to increase confidence when cooking with
different combinations of food. Meat, poultry and seafood will be used regularly,
as will cream, butter and alcohol.
Although consideration will be given to food allergies, it won't be practical to cater for the "I don't like this, that or the other" person. We do however run speciality courses for non-meat eaters and coeliacs.
The course is in English with French terminology, but don't worry - this isn't a language course.
All meals are taken en famille, and friends and neighbours often drop in to join us. It is this informality and the enjoyment of local wine, which can lead to lively conversation and late nights!
